ABOUT
Originally from the UK, Britchie is a seasoned designer and master craftsman with an extensive arts education including a Degree in Industrial Design and a Masters Degree from the Royal College of Art in London. His career spans a diversity of creative disciplines, starting out as a modelmaker for the late Sir Terence Conran’s Habitat/Heals/Mothercare empire and working for several top London agencies before transitioning to digital design with a role in software development for IBM. On immigrating to Canada, Britchie worked as a graphic artist for local movie and TV show productions and then moved into web design and marketing, running his own practice for over a decade. During this time he rekindled his passion for working with wood, converting a small studio space into a fully equipped workshop and channeling his energy into a business he continues to build through ongoing sales and private commissions.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is characteristically bold and contemporary in style, focussed on exploring new forms and visual vocabularies in wood and other natural materials. I’m inspired by the vast body of work and incredible hand skills of my forebears to produce pieces that are both beautiful and give a nod to the past while reflecting the tools and aesthetic of my own era.
