Batman and Ramen New Works in Porcelain
Peter Flanagan September 4-30, 2021
Having lived in the Okanagan Valley since 1985, Peter’s passion for working with clay has been a constant. He pursued his studio and academic training at Kootenay School of Art, University of Victoria and the Banff Centre. His work has been exhibited broadly and he has been the recipient of both national and international awards and recognition in Japan, Indonesia and New Zealand.
Peter joined the historic family run pottery that was central to the Okanagan artistic community for decades. After some twenty five years operating the year round studio, Peter and his wife Daphne now have a home based studio on a small acreage in Peachland.
The work continues to be made of porcelain and high fired in a gas kiln. Constant experimentation with glazes and coloured clays applied to the porcelain produce an endless variety in Peter’s work. Pushing the limits in his wheel throwing capacity has created works now monumental in scale. Never one to be overly consumed by accomplishment, he has continued pushing the boundaries of the clay medium. Not one to take the years of experience for granted he continues to be amazed and humbled by the demands of the craft.
