Effie Baker is a long time resident of the Sea-to-Sky corridor living in the beautiful Paradise Valley (25 Km north of Squamish). While working as a whitewater river guide for over 25 years, she acquired an appreciation of the natural world that inspires her work. Baker began taking courses in fine arts at Emily Carr, at Vancouver Community College, and through the Vancouver School Board. Metalsmithing became her focus because of its infinite possibilities. In 2008, Baker began making jewellery as a cottage industry in her cabin in the woods. Baker began showing her work at Whistler Farmers Market, Art Market in Calgary, Circle Craft in Vancouver, Harmony Arts in West Vancouver and One of a Kind in Toronto as well as numerous galleries and stores throughout Canada and the States. Originally from Nova Scotia, Baker is drawn to the water. She spends as much of her time as possible at her cabin on Texada Island, on the coast of BC, where she spends countless hours collecting the pebbles and shells that find their way onto her workbench and getting inspired by the sea.
Effie is attracted to forms that are organic and often imperfect as found in nature. Effie's aim is to create beautiful , quality designs that appeal to people who are drawn to individual and unique pieces.
