My aim is to accentuate the natural beauty of the wood in functional work, something that can be used and enjoyed on a daily basis.

Ron Bazar has been creating functional art pieces from locally sourced Arbutus, Manzanita and Yew woods for 25 years. It all started when he made his first piece for his mother — a letter opener — which she loved. So did her friends and they desired more items made from these precious woods, not found everywhere.


Ron’s work is unique, one-of-a kind wood collected by him, produced in his studio in Tiber Bay on Cortes Island. He has sold many pieces over the years around the world and his work is known as useable art.


The fact that Ron has created a business of 25 years creating art that has not only sustained his lifestyle but is also environmentally conscious. Chosen for the rarity of the wood grain and elegance of the design, form meets function in the one-of-a-kind pieces Ron shapes. You will find different grades of wood sold here: The difference being the rarity & richness of the grain and the
extra sanding and finishing.


This functional art, made from forest blow downs, dead and dying trees, exudes the spirit of Arbutus. It captures the essence of its native British Columbia in pieces designed to honour one of the world's most unique trees and its sacred
heritage amongst the Salish First Nation. Arbutus, known to them as their "Tree of Knowledge”, in legend, saved the People during the Great Flood.
