Ulrieke Benner holds a Masters of Education in Textiles from the University of Muenster, Germany, and a BFA in Textile Design and Fiber Arts from the University of Massachusetts.

Ulrieke derives her inspiration from the natural environment around her. Her explosive use of colour reflects her sense of playfulness and exuberance. She transforms her inner vision into innovative and whimsical felted yardage, garments, accessories, hats, scarves, shawls and bags.

Employing her unique nuno felting technique, Ulrieke creates felt that is light, airy and very soft. She also specializes in one-of-a-kind moulded and shaped felt hats. Her hats can be subtle or vibrant but they are always sophisticated and stylish, each with its own character.

Ulrieke’s products are very durable and, with proper care, can last a lifetime. Clean felted hats gently with a damp cloth, as necessary. Felt scarves may be hand washed carefully in cool water (hot water will cause the item to shrink). Roll in a towel to remove excess water and lay flat to dry. A cool iron can be used to return it to its original shape. Merino wool slit scarves can be dry cleaned or gently cleaned with a damp cloth. Silk scarves can be hand washed in cool water with mild soap, and ironed while damp.

ARTIST STATEMENT
“Pushing the limits of my fabrics creates new and original materials for creative designs. Combining exquisite silks and natural wool fibres, I stitch, felt and fuse fabrics and colours, creating unique pieces made entirely by hand. I strive to create bright and fearless wearable art with a contemporary European flair.”
