Elaine Brewer-White has been sculpting in clay for over 35 years.
She brings an outlook of joy and celebration to all her projects, from figurative sculpture to vases, garden art to ceramic murals, her work can be found in collections around the world.
Her current figurative work embraces nature. Anthropomorphizing moose, bears, beavers and rabbits is a way for her to explore humanity’s hidden behaviors.
Elaine has developed a following in portrait commission work which she calls her legacy pieces. She tells the story of her subjects, ranging from deep sea divers to gardeners, motorcyclists to ballerinas, and even world leaders, including three Canadian prime ministers.
In the last 6 years, Elaine has also incorporated hand-built pottery into her studio practice, as a way to create useable art that can inhabit smaller spaces. Her mugs, bowls, pitchers, and vases each hold unique narratives because their color, shape and texture.
Elaine has served as Artist in Residence for schools across western Canada. She’s also worked in film and theatre, has written and produced plays, taught comedy and improv and sings jazz.
She is married to Gordon White, a world-renowned clown with Cirque du Soleil.
Her early theatre training taught Elaine the value of risk-taking and spontaneous thinking which she continues to incorporate into all aspects of her artwork.
Elaine believes passionately in the value of living a creative life with optimism and nurturing the creative spirit. Carpe Diem!
