ABOUT
David’s passion for woodworking runs deep, tracing back to his family’s roots in Holland, where his ancestors have been master woodworkers since the 1600s. Despite this rich heritage, David is entirely self-taught, dedicating years to perfecting his craft. His journey has been one of relentless experimentation and mastery, focusing on creating exquisite small handheld items, particularly rings.
David’s work is characterized by his constant search for new and intriguing materials. He is deeply committed to sustainability, often upcycling materials such as skateboards to create his unique pieces. This innovative approach not only sets his work apart but also aligns with his values of environmental responsibility.
In 2017, David opened his own shop, specializing in handcrafted rings. His creations reflect his diverse upbringing across Canada, though he has found his true home in New Westminster. Here, David continues to push the boundaries of his craft, always striving to blend tradition with innovation
ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist, my primary medium is woodworking, but I am always on the lookout for new and interesting materials to fuse with my craft. From space bound meteorites to upcycling old skateboards, I find joy in combining these elements into my creations. Rings allow me to blend materials from the cosmos to the depths of the earth. Sometimes, this journey leads to pieces that aren’t even made from wood, but that’s part of the adventure of being an artist. My work is a testament to the endless possibilities of creativity and the beauty of unexpected combinations.
