ABOUT
Kat Cadegan was born and raised in a musical east coast family. Her road to metalsmithing began in India in 2006. Surrounded by the gems and rich tradition of silversmithing, she took her first of what was to become many jewellery courses. In the chaos and beauty, she found her medium. Following India, Kat headed to the mountains of northern Mexico. She studied for two years under the maniacal eye of Master Silversmith, Billy King. After completing her studies in Mexico, she returned to her native Canada to continue her education at the Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, BC. After graduating in 2010, Kat did a two-month artist residency at the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design in Halifax. In the fall of 2011, she had the pleasure of returning to her native Cape Breton Island as the Artist in Residence at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design. In 2013, Kat had the opportunity to combine both of her passions, travel and metalsmithing, by teaching in Shanghai, China. As part of a partnership program between Selkirk College and the Shanghai School, Kat taught a semester of jewellery design and fabrication. Kat now lives in Revelstoke, BC, creating her work under the watchful eyes of her Mexican street dog, Señor. Selling jewellery for plane tickets and planning her endless escapes into the global village for inspiration.
