ABOUT

I have been making salt-fired functional pottery for over twenty years.
I have a BFA in Sculpture from UBC but didn’t start making pots until after I had graduated and had children.
Sam Kwan was my teacher for several years and I was introduced to salt-firing and studio pottery through him at Capilano College.
I built my first salt kiln in Horseshoe Bay in 2007, and now my second one is in Lund BC where I go to fire several times a year.
In 2017 I was honoured to receive the Northwest Ceramic Foundation’s Award of Excellence.
I split my time between North Vancouver where I enjoy the winter in the mountains and the summer on Cortes Island.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I love making functional pots. The limitations of function and the endless possibilities in clay make for inspiring parameters.
Salt glaze is unpredictable, resulting in varied and beautiful earthy surface that complements the considered rigor of my forms.
