ABOUT
Louise Valentine has been practising the art of painting on silk since 1983. Her husband, Brian Provencher has been a full time partner and technician in the business since 1991. Mostly self taught, she was inspired by Japanese art and technique from the start. The art of shibori dyeing has been her passion since 1998. Working as a team, Louise is the “colour queen”, the designer and dyer while Brian aka “shibori boy” does all of the pleating. Their work has been shown in juried craft shows and exhibitions in cities across Canada and the United States, winning numerous awards in fiber and wearable art categories. They live and work in Gibsons, on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada.

The Japanese method of shibori resist dyeing allows us to explore the relationship between colour and texture when creating a soft sculpture of wearable art, bringing a contemporary look to this ancient art form.
