The artist behind the designs at Dougherty Glassworks is Cameron Dougherty. As the founder and namesake, he has a true passion for glassblowing. Originally from California’s Central Valley, Cameron now lives and works in Vancouver BC with his wife and their dog.
Studying and working with glass has allowed Cameron to work in studios up and down the entire west coast of North America. However, the initial spark behind his lifelong journey with glass came over 14 years ago, while he was earning his degree in Business Information Systems at California State University Chico. After graduating he enrolled at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, followed by a 5 year apprenticeship in California.
In 2017 Cameron moved to Vancouver, BC and launched Dougherty Glassworks. He runs his business out of the Terminal City Glass Co-op in East Vancouver, where he worked as the Studio Manager from 2018-2021.
Along with his own artistic development, Cameron is passionate about the growth and development of the glass blowing community. He enjoys training new students and apprentices and cultivating a love for glass in others.
“I work as a Glassblower, focusing on barware and other sculptural and decorative items for the home. To me, glass is the most captivating of all materials. We all use it every day in our windows and drink ware, yet very few know of the processes involved in the making. I love both the process and the material. I find the challenge of working with glass to be extremely rewarding. It is a dance of heat, gravity and centrifugal force, as well as the hand-eye coordination that I have developed over the last 10 years. The never-ending desire to improve my craft and the need for focus and concentration keeps me striving to move forward in better controlling the material”
