Pattern surrounds us on a day to day level. We are immersed in patterns in our environment, from the clothes that we wear to the patterns that occur in our natural world. “Architectural Details” is about a closer examination of pattern that we may see and take for granted when presented in its original form.
I have taken patterns from various architectural details, such as cast iron grates, cornices, carved friezes and various salvaged pieces from times past and presented them as felted wall hangings. By magnifying the pattern and changing the material from the original hard cast iron, stone, or wood medium to a soft felted object, the focus and sense has shifted from its original intent.
