Compositions in Wood

Nicholas Purcell and
Jason Schubert

Nicholas Purcell combines the excellence of workmanship (above photo), his skilled eye and the richness of carefully chosen materials to produce pieces of great integrity and beauty which embody timeless, intelligent design.  His dedication and passion for his craft require that he work independently on each piece to ensure its quality.  Nick's design expertise can work within many styles and tastes to satisfy every client.  More recently Nick and his artist wife Brangwynne also work together on a line of contemporary furniture which is design driven and utilizes modern techniques and materials.

Nicholas was born in Durham, England, but spent most of his life in Canada and the US.  He has recently returned to settle in Vancouver where he has established his workshop on Bowen Island.  Here he designs and makes both commissioned and limited edition pieces.

Jason Schubert's love of woodwork is evident in every piece he creates.  He apprenticed in the South of Germany where he learned Old World techniques from Master Craftsmen.  After four years in Europe, Jason returned to BC where he worked for various high-end companies before opening Schubert's Design Woodwork in 1991.  Jason's company was established and is recognized as one of the finest residential millwork companies in the lower mainland.  He has had the most fortunate opportunity to work with Vancouver's finest designers and architects such as the Robert Ledingham Design Group and the Architect Steve Zibin.  In 1995, Jason built the cabinetry for the Street of Dreams, designed by Robert Ledingham which won best of show.

Jason's work has not only been enjoyed in BC, but also in many parts of the US.  With his move to Bowen Island, Jason realized his dream to work independently on his true passion, designing and making furniture.  A truly versatile craftsman, Jason is inspired by all aspects of furniture building, from design to finishing, and creates furniture that is beautiful, strong, and functional.  His unique creativeness and desire for quality not only gives his clients a "one of a kind" piece of furniture, but also a piece that will last for many generations.
