Spotlight on Quebec

Featuring the work of

Five Quebec Craft Artists

Steven Barkley of Marionnettes Diabolo Puppets: At the age of 10 influenced by my hero Jim Henson, I started making puppets to entertain myself and my friends. I work mostly with acrylic fur, fleece and foam, which I cut to patterns that I have designed. I assemble my puppets using a sewing machine, and then adding details by hand.

Claude Choiniere and Richard Morin of Morin Choiniere: These two Montreal designers pride themselves in their ability to reinvent everyday objects into refined and avant-garde glassware. Available in a wide array of colours, their flower vases, picture frames, candle holders and others are easily identified by their innovative and exclusive design.

Serge Tardif and Nathalie Morin: There is no big secret about woodworking. Exploiting the natural qualities of wood, strength and flexibility, we elaborated different laminating, molding and mounting techniques. Crossing the fibers for more rigidity, we add layers to gain strength or simply attach a planar piece to transform it into a tridimensional object.

Sylvain Tremblay and Marie-Josee Martinoli of Bidule: This husband and wife team is producing a collection of wooden pepper mills aimed at people who want to make the serving of freshly ground pepper an occasion to remember!

Simon Trudeau: My rational mind is inspired by techniques and machine and my irrational side is attracted by the complex shapes of nature. I want my bags to look like huge jewels or empty sculptures that you can fill and carry with you.
